How we handle your personal data
In short
- You can browse this website without giving us any personal data.
- If you submit a review, we store the name you type, your star rating and your review text. Nothing else.
- Our contact form does not send anything to us by itself. It opens your own email application, and you send the message.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits. You can block this with your browser or an ad blocker.
- You have rights under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, including access, correction and deletion. Section 9 explains how to use them.
The full detail follows. If anything here is unclear, please ask us.
1. Who we are
Diaspora Talent Centre ("we", "us", "our") operates this website at diasporatalentcentre.co.ke. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act, 2019 (No. 24 of 2019) of the Laws of Kenya, we are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What this policy covers
This policy covers personal data collected through this website only. If you go on to engage us for a service, such as a work permit application, a visa application, a student placement or business registration, we will collect considerably more information from you, including copies of identity and immigration documents. That processing is governed by the separate terms and privacy notice we provide when you engage us, not by this website policy.
3. What we collect, and why
3.1 Customer reviews
If you choose to submit a review on our contact page, we store exactly three pieces of information you provide:
- Name. Optional. If you leave it blank it is recorded as "Anonymous". You are free to use a first name only, or initials.
- Star rating. A whole number from 1 to 5.
- Review text. Between 10 and 1,000 characters.
We also record the date and time the review was received, and, once a member of our staff has reviewed it, whether it was approved and by whom.
We do not collect your email address, telephone number or IP address when you submit a review. An earlier version of this website also recorded your browser's user agent string. That was removed in August 2026 and any remaining copies are being cleared.
Reviews are published. If we approve your review, the name you typed, your rating and your review text become publicly visible to anyone who visits our contact page. Please do not include anything in a review that you are not willing to make public, and please do not include another person's personal data.
Lawful basis: your consent, under section 30 of the Data Protection Act, 2019, given by choosing to submit the review. You may withdraw it at any time by asking us to remove the review.
Editing. Our staff can correct a published review, for example to fix a spelling mistake or remove something that should not be public. Where this happens, the system permanently keeps the original wording alongside the change and records who made it and when. If you believe a review of yours has been altered in a way that misrepresents you, contact us and we will show you the original and correct or remove it.
3.2 The contact form
Our contact form works differently from most. When you press "Send Message", nothing is transmitted to us by the website. Instead your browser opens your own email application with the details pre-filled, and you send the message from your own email account.
This means the website itself neither stores nor transmits what you type into that form. Once you send the message it travels through your own email provider and arrives in our mailbox, where we hold it in order to answer your enquiry and keep a record of our correspondence.
Lawful basis: the steps necessary to enter into a contract at your request, and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about our services.
3.3 Website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement identifier G-SHXYXL4V91) to understand how many people visit the site and which pages are useful. Google Analytics collects information such as your approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site. It sets cookies in your browser.
We use this only in aggregate. We do not use it to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine it with review or enquiry data.
Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the use of our website.
How to opt out: use your browser's privacy settings, a content blocker, or Google's own Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking it will not affect your use of this website in any way.
3.4 Our own visitor counter
We also keep a simple count of visits so that our staff can see how busy the site is without needing an analytics account. This records only a date and a number. It contains no personal data, no identifiers and nothing that could be traced to you. To avoid counting the same person repeatedly on the same day, your browser stores a single date in its local storage. See section 4.
3.5 Administrator accounts
Members of our staff who moderate reviews sign in with an email address and password managed by Google Firebase Authentication. This applies to our staff only. Visitors to this website do not have accounts and cannot create one.
4. Cookies and browser storage
We set no cookies of our own. The cookies present on this site come from Google Analytics.
| Name | Type | Set by | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Cookie | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors so visits can be counted. Typically expires after two years. |
dtc_last_counted_day | Local storage | This website | A single date, so our visitor counter counts you once per day rather than once per page. |
dtc_review_last_submit | Local storage | This website | A single timestamp, so the review form can ask you to wait a moment before submitting again. Helps prevent spam. |
The two local storage entries contain no personal data and never leave your device. You can clear them at any time through your browser's settings for this site.
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use the following service providers, who act as data processors on our behalf:
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Google (Firebase) | Stores submitted reviews and manages our staff sign-in. |
| Google (Analytics) | Website usage statistics. |
| Netlify | Hosts and delivers the website. Processes standard server request information. |
| Google (Gmail) | Receives enquiry emails you send us. |
We may also disclose personal data where we are required to do so by law, by a court order, or by a lawful request from a regulatory or law enforcement authority in Kenya.
6. Transfers outside Kenya
The providers listed above store and process data on servers located outside Kenya. This means your personal data is transferred out of the country within the meaning of sections 48 and 49 of the Data Protection Act, 2019.
We rely on those providers' contractual data protection commitments, which include standard contractual clauses, as the appropriate safeguard for these transfers. Where the transfer relates to a review, it is also made on the basis of your consent, given when you submit it.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Published reviews | Until you ask us to remove it, or until we decide to remove it. |
| Reviews we did not publish | Kept on record so the same submission is not reconsidered repeatedly. Removed on request. |
| Enquiry emails | For as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for our ordinary business records. |
| Analytics | Per Google's retention settings for the property. |
| Visitor counts | Indefinitely. They contain no personal data. |
8. How we protect it
Reviews are held in Google Firestore, protected by server-enforced access rules. Unpublished reviews can only be read by a signed-in member of our staff holding a specific administrative permission. Our staff moderation area requires both a password and that permission, and the site is served over an encrypted connection.
No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet, and any transmission is at your own risk.
9. Your rights
Under section 26 of the Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:
- be informed of the use to which your personal data is put, which is the purpose of this policy;
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- object to the processing of all or part of your personal data;
- correction of false or misleading data; and
- deletion of false or misleading data about you.
In practice, for this website, the most common requests are to have a review removed or corrected, or to ask what we hold. To make a request, email info@diasporatalentcentre.co.ke with enough detail for us to find the entry, such as the name used and the approximate date.
We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable. We do not charge for this. Because reviews can be submitted without an account, we may need to ask you a question or two to satisfy ourselves that the review is yours before we change or remove it.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, the supervisory authority established under the Data Protection Act, 2019. Their contact details are published at odpc.go.ke.
11. Children
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Under section 33 of the Data Protection Act, 2019, processing the personal data of a child requires the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has submitted a review, tell us and we will remove it.
12. Other websites
This site links to external websites, including government portals such as eCitizen and embassy or immigration services. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Read their policies before giving them your information.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services or the law change. The effective date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be notified on this page.
